Can you identify the geographic region below that looks like a Scottish Terrier?

Update:
We have a winner in the comments. Meanwhile, John writes: “Check out Ray’s Weather and take a look at Avery County, NC. That’s where my cabin/mountain/hiking pictures are mostly taken. You tell me… is this not perfect for Scottie pics?”

Golden retriever vs. Scottish Terrier

A tale of two very different dog temperaments from the Horse You Came In On:

This morning when I left my dogs one was asleep in the late winter sunshine in the kennel while the other was barking vigorously at anything that moved. Guess which was which? Evidently Dolly not only has trust in me, but trust in her little friend that allows her to sleep without fear of interruption. Maggie on the other hand, spends her day safe in the knowledge that every car or truck she has ever warned off has prudently kept going, and I am sure this fills her with self-esteem.

Michelle Obama has told People magazine the first family will get its rescue Portie in April:

“Temperamentally they’re supposed to be pretty good,” she says of the breed that Sen. Ted Kennedy has also lobbied for (he has two Water dogs of his own). “From the size perspective, they’re sort of middle of the road – it’s not small, but it’s not a huge dog. And the folks that we know who own them have raved about them. So that’s where we’re leaning.”

The Name Game
The only thing still up in the air is the name. And Mom’s not feeling it with some of the names her girls have come up with.

“Oh, the names are really bad. I don’t even want to mention it, because there are names floating around and they’re bad,” Mrs. Obama says with a laugh. “You listen and you go – like, I think, Frank was one of them. Frank! Moose was another one of them. Moose. I said, well, what if the dog isn’t a moose? Moose. I’m like, no, come on, let’s work with the names a little bit.”

We just discovered there’s an Ebony and Ivory animals group on Flickr, but it seems to be dominated by cats.

Our sister site, the Daily Dachshund and Dog News, has a special report on a Dachshund whose owners claim she’s the world’s oldest dog. Red flags are raised.

Last summer there was quite a comments kerfuffle here after a Westie won the coveted role of Toto in a major London revival of the Wizard of Oz. Now, a Cairn’s been chosen to play this archetypal Kansas canine, and while it’s not Broadway, Shemp will be playing to a Yank audience in the state of New York.
