Click through here to see these photos by Ron Netherwood in in their fullscale glory. “They may resemble pandas, buffalos and camels – but these animals are actually poodles, all competing for the title of top dog at ‘creative grooming’ shows across the U.S.,” reports the Daily Mail. “Something of a canine fancy dress contest, it takes just two hours for owners to transform their pets, which are sheared and coloured to achieve each look.”

The Times of London reports:
The differences between the silky coat of a cocker spaniel, the wiry hair of a Scottish Terrier and the soft curls of a poodle are caused by variations in only three genes, scientists have discovered…“What’s important for human health is the way we found the genes involved in dog coats and figured out how they work together, rather than the genes themselves,” said Elaine Ostrander, head of cancer genetics at the US National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), who led the study.

Our comments: Another very Scottie-ish looking hybrid. Given that Cairns have fewer genetic problems than Scotties and Westies, this mix is probably not a bad idea.
