First, let me state that I’m against fat pets.

That being said, I think a lot of vets want dogs to be crazy thin.

And while Angus, the Scottish Terrier in this video, is not skinny, he’s hardly a poster boy for dog obesity.

What’s more, it needs to be said, that the pink-clad woman responsible for Angus’ public shaming is hardly wraith-like herself.

Did you catch that double chin and those forearms?

Normally, I would not comment on such things but if Angus can be humiliated on YouTube, well, the gloves come off.

Now, I’m off to watch House where they treat serious illness.

Here are some past posts on pudginess including  Scottish Terriers’ high obesity risk, the tale of a fattie Scottie and how much readers’ dogs weigh.

The story begins:

“My boyfriend Duncan and I moved from Montana to Oregon last month. But as harrowing as the move was for us, it was nothing compared to the confusion and insecurity our two dogs had to endure.

Our first dog is – to put it delicately – simple-minded. Our other dog is a neurotic German shepherd mix with agonizingly low self-esteem who has taken on the role of ‘helper dog’ for our simple dog. Neither dog is well-equipped with coping mechanisms of any kind.”

Read the entire saga. It’s become an internet sensation.

Meanwhile a reader is looking for some Scottie-moving help. She writes:

My 2 year old Scottie and I are trying to travel from the West to East coast for the holidays and I’m trying to find the most cost efficient way to cross the US. I’ve searched the blogs pages (as well as the rest of the Internet), but I couldn’t find any info on Scotties and air travel! I was wondering how all those Scottish Terrier owners out there do it?
Thanks!

Anyone have any tips?

Do you worry about poop scooping?

by AnnB on November 28, 2010 · 0 comments

in Life with dogs

Recently I ran out of my favourite PoopEase dog scooping bags and was forced to forage in the household collection of recycled plastic bags to find something scoop-worthy. Even though I inspect the bags thoroughly  before taking them on a dog walk, I worry constantly that a flawed one may slip through with the unpleasantly predictable results. I would like to know if readers share my fear or if this is a personal OCD issue. Please held with this important Scottish Terrier and Dog News research  by responding to our poll.

As faithful readers of the Scottish Terrier and Dog News know, our world headquarters is in Canada so we are no strangers to snow, but when we saw this shot we were still kind of surprised to see so much snow in November.

Anyone want to guess where it was taken?

And yes, we agree, the two of them are adorable.

Here are some more of our all-time favourite snow photos and posts including the story of the Scottish Terrier who found buried treasure in the snow and tips on dealing with Scottie snowballs.

Update: Okay, the location has been revealed in the comments by an internet sleuth. It’s St. Petersburg, Russia where I expect the locals to look like the photo below in winter, not  like they just emerged from a yoga studio around the corner. Back when Lara and Yuri were carrying on people wore the Ugg-like objects on their heads whereas nowadays it’s the opposite with the big furry things on their feet and a sleeker look on top. Go figure.

(Off topic: Why do people always carry obviously empty suitcases in movies when they go to so much trouble to make everything else seem authentic? It’s one of my pet peeves.)

Lara and Yuri in the snow in Dr. Zhivago. They don't have Scottish Terriers just empty suitcases

Read the article on dog intelligence vs. cat smarts. And be sure to browse the very enjoyable comments.

Alas, just a cursory reading of this research raises so many questions that the Scottie News can not take it seriously.
