This was supposed to be your weekend Scottish Terrier video, but, as some of you may have noticed, the Scottie News had technical difficulties — due to our hosting company — last week.

In any case, consider this video a message about sticking to the plan this week.

A reader sent this along with the obligatory disclaimer that it may be nothing more than a wild internet rumour. I’m passing it along just in case it isn’t. Any feedback you may have is welcome.

WARNING!!! the virus that I nearly lost my dogs with is still rampant at the moment, the vets seem to be taking too long to recognise the symptoms, because there is no temperature until about 4 days after the symptoms most vets are treating the dogs for poisoning or foreign body in the gut, the symptoms are , vomiting large amounts of water with or without white foam, yellow watery poos.

So far there is only 1 antibiotic that I know that works and it saved my 7 dogs, STMORGYL. Please pass this on as I have heard today that a puppy in the next village to us (near Stowmarket) died in the night and met a friend just an hour ago and her friend has lost 2 dogs in the past 2 weeks all with the same symptoms all treated for the wrong thing at the vets. I feel we are extremely lucky with our vets that they listened to us when we insisted on antibiotics straightaway – the first one didn’t work but the above mentioned one did, either of these symptoms on their own or together could be the virus and the dog will feel cool or even cold with no temperature, PLEASE PLEASE PASS THIS ON – one more dog lost is too many thank you.

Along with Marjorie Flacks’s Angus series, the Scottish Terrier and Dog News recommends these three books. Thanks to Latham of Mucklewags for bringing the first two to our attention. The third, Come Back Puppies, was a favourite of mine and my daughter’s back when she was little.

Westie lives in luxury

Douglas leads a life of luxury

Not only does Douglas the Westie get to live in a swank house that’s featured in the local newspaper, he also has his own custom-built dog house.

“I did a maple frame, and I hid all the screws with ‘dog bones’ made of walnut,” says his guardian, Roy. “I drew lettering on a computer to make different sayings, then cut them out of cherry wood. Then I cut out recessed letters in the wood frame and inserted the cherry wood letters. Some of the sayings are ‘A house without a dog is the house of a scoundrel’ and ‘A spoiled rotten dog lives here.’”

All Scottie News can say is that must be some dog house, if Douglas chooses it over the human habitat.

Last Sunday we showed video of some very lucky Scotties enjoying a birthday party. Three of the dogs were rescues from Scottish Terrier Rescue of the Southeast (formerly known as Scottish Terrier Rescue of the Carolinas) so we headed over to their site to find some feel-good rescue tales and, sure enough, we hit paydirt with the story of 10-year-old Mac:

Mac: A 10-year-old rescue Scottish Terrier

A handsome older gentleman

Mac had belonged to someone who surely must have loved him. But health problems led his owner to put him in an outdoor pen, with no care or human interaction other than a neighbor’s daily feeding. He was filthy, overweight and suffering from skin issues and an ear infection. Mercifully, he found his way into Rescue. By the time I knew of him, Mac’s medical conditions had been treated, he had been neutered, and he was getting along well with the other dogs in his foster-family’s home.

When I met Mac, he kissed my nose. I was instantly charmed. Little did I know then that he is not a kisser!

If you can’t get enough of rescue Scotties, here’s video showing more of the dogs rescued by this group:

If you are a regular reader, you’ve heard this song before — many times. But here it comes again…

Dear Scottie News readers,

I am so sorry for taking so long to get some of these pictures of your wonderful dogs posted. And I am even sorrier if I’ve forgotten or lost a photo of a much-loved Scottie.

If that’s the case, please send them along again as March break is coming up soon and that means, the Scottie News will have an intern slaving on duty at our world headquarters.

Yours sincerely.

Miyagi the cat and Nessie the Scottish Terrier

Helen writes:

We have had Miyagi (the white and black cat) for about 5 years now and we decided to get a Scottish terrier (Nessie).

Migagi always greets us at the drive way and escorts us to the front gate, off course Nessie is always standing ready to greet us.

At first we thought the cat would really not be able to adjust to her new sibling , slowly they managed to get use to each other.

Nessie is 6 Months old now and at least once a day I see them playfully chasing each other around the house (they each get a turn to chase).

I think its safe to say they are now used to each other.

As a singleton, he has his mom all to himself but for added stimulation, I have added an Airedale beanie baby (right). It gives him something to fight with and snuggle up to when Mom is out.”
