The Scottish Terrier and Dog News is confused. We thought the iconic Monopoly Scottie had been replaced with a Labradoodle. So why exactly has a Scottie been put to use shilling for the Maryland Lottery? Maybe it’s because no matter what the capitalist Monopoly bosses think, the rest of us know it’s just not that easy to replace a Scottish Terrier.
And while we’re on the subject of Scotties and lotteries, here’s the tale of Ellie the rescue Scottish Terrier who starred in a British lottery commercial. Unfortunately, the video’s no longer available.

WAFF.com in Madison Alabama reports on the aftermath of the deadly tornados that hit one year ago:
Chase and Calen Chambless lost their home on April 27th, 2011 in the tornadoes. They also lost their two dogs who were in the home, or so they thought.
The next couple days after the tornadoes, they searched for Bella, a 7-year-old West Highland Terrier, and Kiaha, a 3-year-old Australian Shepherd.
April 29th, a couple who had Bella’s description brought her to the Chambless couple. She was dirty and had insulation all over her. The insulation and debris was packing into her eyes to the point they were nearly matted shut, and she could not see. The couple told the Chamblesses they saw her climb out from under a large pile of debris on the other side of the neighborhood.

Lisa writes:
This is “our rescue scottie Mac singing along to the song ‘Loving You’. He always starts singing as soon as he hears this come on the radio, apparently he’s a big fan of Minnie Riperton!
Our family adopted Mac and Molly together as they were getting on so well at their temporary home. Molly was given away because her original owners became ill and unable to look after her, but Mac was rescued because he had a horrible past with abusive owners. When we first got them, Mac took a long while to get comfortable, he would cower when approached, never played with toys and he would even growl sometimes when a man would pet him. He’s been with us three years, it took a lot of work but he’s transformed into this loving Scottie who trusts his family and even cuddles up on the sofa with us, plays tug of war and loves to sing along when we sing or with certain songs that play, especially this Minnie Riperton song!

Scottie News finds it interesting that Mac’s companion Molly appears to have little musical interest — unlike these singing Scottish Terriers.

Happy Cinco de Mayo from Dr. Watson…(from Cambridge, MA.) According to his guardian Deborah, he’s saying…” Okay and Ole!, Mom… I know you like a good fiesta….but this scottie does not care for tequila…only single malt!”

Inquiring reader Wanda writes: “I’m suddenly running across this — the latest in cute — all over the Cutisphere (Kid’s toys, Bento Box, Children’s books and programming).” Do you think Gaspard and Lisa are Scotties?
Frankly, they look more like rabbits to me. Maybe they’re rabbits crossed with Scotties…

The Scottish Terrier and Dog News missed this story when it first surfaced late last year. German justice minister Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger’s Scottie Franzi landed her in trouble with the law when he bit a passerby, who tried to pet him while he was out on a dog walk.
My German’s a bit rusty, but as far as I can tell, the victim filed an official complaint, before things ended up being settled out of court.
According to Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger, Franzi, who occasionally accompanies his mistress minister to the national capital Berlin on business, is a loving and harmless dog and the incident in question was just an unfortunate accident.
Apparently the biting was a one-time lapse on the part of Franzi, who often attends meetings with his minister mistress
