At around 11 a.m. eastern standard time, the Scottish Terrier and Dog News will send out the first edition of its new and improved (we hope) newsletter. Over the next few days and weeks we will be fixing anything that needs to be fixed and adding more bells and whistles. Any feedback you have would be much appreciated.

For now, the newsletter is still free, but some time this month, it will go premium and be available only to paid subscribers and readers who have donated to the Scottie News in the past.

Don’t worry, though, it will be very reasonably priced at $3.95 per month for an entire year. That’s less than a cup of homemade coffee per day or one venti cappuccino per month. And there’s even a discount to $2.95 per month if you subscribe before the official launch. Email scottishterriernews@gmail.com to get this special discounted price.

Agility’s a little like going to the gym and taking spin class. It’s a tough workout and there’s definitely a learning curve. Annie’s got a way to go before she rivals Hitchcock the agility champ, but the Scottie News is impressed with her potential.

If you prefer a home workout in the backyard and you live in northern climes, try a snow agility workout like Obi:

Of course, you can still get a workout without agility and snow and it’s low impact to chase a few turtles like Lotti does:

And if you work out hard enough, you deserve a little birthday cake and ice cream:

Scottish Terrier in a snowy landscape

Who says February in Canada is terrible?

Bridget was enjoying a serene solo dog walk early on February 29th when, all of a sudden, many of the park regulars emerged out of nowhere and Mabel the bulldog took her for a walk.

Here’s the money shot:

Bulldog takes Scottish Terrier for a walk
Truth be told, Mabel did a better job than Bridget’s humans sometimes manage.

But I think Bridget would prefer that this type of thing could only happen on February 29th.

CHAPEL HILL — Animal rights activist Wayne Pacelle was a boy, his uncle bought him and his cousins West Highland White Terriers, or “Westies.” Pacelle and his cousins fell in love with their new outdoor puppies, Brandy and Randy, which were born in Kansas, the largest puppy mill state at the time. And when Pacelle and his family finished playing with the pups, they would tether the dogs without a second thought.

Now as president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, Pacelle works to raise awareness of the contradictory ways many animal-loving Americans treat animals. As a dog-lover who tethered his puppy-mill Westie as a child, Pacelle argues that the bond humans have with animals has been broken.
