Louis Vuitton Scottish Terrier ad

Forget the model. Who styled the Scottish Terrier?

It would appear that the Scottie News has a number of fashionista fans. Several people, including my daughter, have alerted us to the new Louis Vuitton ad, complete with Scottish Terrier.

We can’t help but wonder which costs more — the bag or the Scottie dog?

Also, the fashion world is making a big deal about the new model, Nyasha, but the Scottish Terrier News wants the scoop on the dog and, more importantly, its stylist.

A 10-year-old Florida West Highland Terrier has been making headlines around the world after his devoted owner saved him from a vicious alligator attack. Pensioner Gary Murphy punched the six-foot beast on the top of its head, forcing it to release Doogie. Watch the video and read more. Added bonus: The detailed report includes the tale of a dog-attacking kangaroo.

And remember, dogs are much more frequent victims of alligators than humans.

RIP Bosley, Scottish Terrier and Washington insider

IN MEMORIAM: For ten years, Bosley, a rescued Scottish Terrier, shuttled gracefully between western Kentucky and Washington, DC. He was Ed Whitfield's secret weapon for winning nine consecutive elections.

Sadly, it has come to the attention of the Scottie News that Bosley, the well known Scottish Terrier of Kentucky congressman Ed Whitfield, has died.

Bosley was at the centre of a scandal that engulfed Washington four years ago when the Scottie News had barely begun publishing. Truth be told, he helped put us on the map.

More recently, Bosley and his canine companions, Nigel and Julep, appeared in a Washington Post article on political pets. Apparently, the Scottish Terrier had made headlines on the hill more than once:

…it was Bosley who caused the most trouble back in 2002 when he escaped from the Cannon House Office Building and took off running down Independence Avenue SE. Members of Whitfield’s staff and a policeman chased him all the way to the Capitol.

The benefits of having Julep, Nigel and Bosley underfoot outweigh their rare disruptions, Whitfield said: “I think the atmosphere is better, because it’s hard to be very formal when you have a dog jumping around the office.”

RIP, Bosley. The Scottie News extends its heartfelt sympathies to your family and friends.

A soldier and his Scottish Terrier service dog

The Tracy Press in California reports:

A service-certified canine that stands just above ankle high with traditionally cropped, buff-colored hair, Mandy is Edward’s constant companion, helping him cope with crowds that, at least twice, caused the veteran to black out and come to hiding in a corner.

“When family can’t be around, I take Mandy with me, because the minute I leave my home I have panic issues related to my PTSD,” said the serviceman, who credits his canine with keeping him calm when little else will.

“She’ll tend to pace around me, or just stay very close to me,” Edward said. “She’s trying to keep people away from me, to try to protect me, because I tend to get very defensive.

Finally, a sunny day, to kick off the long weekend! (Or for the Rapture if you don’t think you’ll make it through the weekend)

And a reminder about the Scottie News‘ comprehensive recent post on Scottish Terrier allergies. (In case you missed it first time round.)

Enjoy the sunshine, everyone — while it lasts.

Dog by Matthew Van Fleet

The author has a pug, which explains the place of honour on the cover

Dog, the book, is one of the two presents I give to parents of new babies. I love it almost as much as I love this video. Every time I look at both the book and the video, I get a huge kick out of them.

I know that others prefer Tails to Dog but not me. The only tiny quibble I have with Dog is that there’s no Scottish Terrier.

P.S. They’re talking about The Incredible Journey on the radio now so I’m also including links to the book and various DVD versions since it’s on topic. As a kid, I loved this version, which doesn’t appear to be available any more.

Scottie News readers always looks for the puppy angle and photos.

And when we find it, we also ask the tough questions like whether or not Arnold’s cheated on the puppy. That fluffy white bitch in the top photo looks like she’d be willing to do some snuggling.

We’d hate for the National Enquirer to scoop the Scottie News.

Puffball! ~ 9/52
Puffball! ~ 9/52 by ellenc995 at Flickr

Apologies everyone, for all the broken links in yesterdays post on Scottish Terrier allergies and treatments. The links have now been fixed now so the owners of Westies — who, as a breed, have worse allergies than Scotties — can now check them out along with this study on the Genome-wide linkage of atopic dermatitis in West Highland White Terriers.

Or you can just take a Benadryl and smell the flowers.
