The Times-Herald, a Bay Area newspaper, reports:

The Lucases say they believe Lady was stolen from their yard, that someone called out to her from a car and she just ambled over. The dog, besides having a microchip implanted under her skin, was also wearing a name tag with her owners’ home address. If someone had come across Lady by accident, there were plenty of ways she could have been returned, they said.

“The thing that upset me the most was to really believe somebody took her,” Connie Lucas said. “People don’t understand that when you have (a dog), they become part of the family.”

Now, Lady is home, freshly groomed and in the company of the couple’s two other Scottish terriers, Buddy and Mac, one of which was purchased to replace the missing Lady.

What happy news after such a long time!

Last week, I received an email from someone going by the name of beer drinkman and looking for a Scottish Terrier in the San Francisco Bay area. While I had some misgivings about this correspondent’s name and grammar, I nevertheless posted his message. Readers generously offered up lots of helpful advice but beer drinkman never responded. I emailed him to let him know that his question had been answered many times over. Here is our correspondence:

Hello,

Please read my blog. Our readers had a lot of great suggestions. It would be nice if you could come back and let them know you’ve seen them.

Bests,

That was the last I heard of mr. beer drinkman. Maybe he’ll come back and give us the names of some hot new microbreweries.

an ee cummings fan writes:

dear bridgett, goodmorning . our family wants a puppy. we live in san francisco. now that the san francisco chronicle has no classifieds, its not so simple to find a litter of pups. perhaps you with your involvment with this breed could steer us in the right direction. thankyou, respectfully yours, mo

I feel your pain. Confusion and bad dog sites are why I started the Scottie News. Have you tried the US Scottish Terrier breeder page? What about Scottie Friends and the San Francisco Bay Scottish Terrier Club? Meanwhile, maybe one of our very knowledgeable readers will chime in. I know we have a few in the Bay Area.

One of the Scottie News‘ first readers and contributors, Carol in Los Angeles, wrote today with the sad news that her much loved Scottish Terrier, 15-year-old Riley, had died.

Riley and his brother, Baily have been on the Scottish Terrier and Dog News many times. Here are some memories including California forest fires, a new doggie playroom and one of my favourite Scottie videos ever, the Beckett-esque Scottish Terriers in a Bucket.

Rest in peace, Riley. You had a wonderful life.

Scottie News extends its deepest sympathies to Carol.

All that’s missing is the Jefferson Airplane soundtrack.

After watching this very scary movie, I will never, ever complain about deburring Bridget. I’m also wondering if they have different, meaner burrs in Southern California.

Scottish Terrier Golden Gate BridgeUntitled by Rafael Gaino

California girl or boy?

Here’s a great shot of a Dachshund in front of the Golden Gate Bridge that the Daily Doxie featured earlier this year.

We’ll be back with a special grooming report later today including extensive tips from Lallee and what Cowboy Magic can do for your dog.

In the mean time, see all our Scottish Terrier pictures by clicking on the photos label directly below.

No, it’s not Cruella de Vil who’s after the dog fur but rather San Francisco artist Lauren Davies whose art project, The Breeders, “explores the world of pedigree dog breeding via drawings and scale models of assorted breeds of dogs.” Apparently local Scottish Terrier groomers can’t provide her with enough fur for her Scottie Dog sculpture, so she’s making an appeal to owners. Lauren will even pay for shipping which is something Cruella deVil absolutely never did. Contacts can be found in the top right-hand corner of the artist’s website.

In the mean time, you’ll just all have to admire the West Highland terrier or Westie above.

PetHobbyist.com has reports and advice from Liz Palika, a dog trainer and author of over 50 books on dog care, cat care, birds, reptiles and amphibians, located in the San Diego area.

Meanwhile, our unoffical Hollwood correspondent and the owner of Scottish Terriers Baily and Riley, writes from Los Angeles that she lives in a high-risk area that had to be evacuated two years ago. When she got the news bak then, she sped home at once.

As I got closer to home it looked like a war zone. I was about 1 1/2 miles from home and the police men would not let me in to get my Scotties. I waited for an hour and decided to break the law and sneak past the barrier to get my boys… I got to my dogs but the flames were getting closer and all around us and I could not get my other car out of the garage.

As the flames got closer I started to freak out and finally someone helped me get my car out of the garage. I got the dogs out just in time and took them to a hotel. We could see the flames from the hotel but we felt safer. The outcome is that our house did not burn down but everything up to the property lines did. It is very scary but I broke laws and would do it again if I had to. We sure are lucky.
