events

It’s the weekend of May 21-22. Make your reservations of you haven’t already. The details of this year’s events are on the website. And here’s a little bit of history:

The concept of the Scottie Rally began in the winter of 2000 shortly after our first Scottish Terrier, Shayna McPunim Bronsky, was diagnosed with bladder cancer at the age of almost twelve. While ambivalent, Michele Bronsky started making phone calls to start finding a connection for potential breeders. Although there was an annual gathering of Scottie memorabilia collectors meeting (WISCOTS), it was limited to two-legged attendees.

Because of Shayna’s diagnosis and uncertainty regarding the course of her illness, we decided to gather people together in Door County to celebrate the lives of Scotties. It was the best decision we ever made! The friendships we developed through that first event sustained us during the last few months of Shayna’s life and have been lifesaving to us after her passing.

This will be the 10th anniversary of the rally. Help organizers keep up the fantastic work.

This was taken at New York Tartan Day Saturday. Urban Heirlooms has a large collection of Tartan Day 2010 photos. As usual, the Scotties are vastly outnumbered by the Westies.

Mashka, the singing Scottish Terrier, is back, celebrating Tartan Day. We’re very pleased to see that her owner also got into the spirit, but sorry to say that the black ankle socks are a Scottish style no no. For the record, here are our fashion guidelines for all men and dog owners thinking of experimenting with kilts.

Usually, a large contingent of Scottish and West Highland Terriers participate in the New York Tartan Day parade, but we haven’t yet had time to search through all the latest video and photos. Instead we give you footage of last year’s parade.

An army of Scottish Terriers participated in New York’s Tartan Day parade this past Saturday. Look for the Scottie dogs 25 seconds into the video. And keep your fingers crossed that the Scottish Terrier and Dog News‘ New York correspondent will chime in with the details.

Kilt lovers and Tartan Day fans, please check out Scottie News’ highly popular post on dogs in kilts.
