The Washington Post has a wonderful photo essay and article on “Congressmen and women and their staffs have embraced the practice of bringing their dogs to work, filling offices and halls with wagging tails and clattering paws.”

Bosley the Scottish Terrier and Nigel the Jack Russel make an appearance for the first time in three years. They survived the scandal that surrounded their last appearance on the Scottie News.

Thanks to our D.C. Deep Throat for the tip.

So what if it happened back in 1944 and it’s never been established if Dwight D. Eisenhower and Kay Summersby really did have an affair, this evidence, which came to light in Kansas this week, seems pretty damning:

Eisenhower’s pets continue to be a natural topic of interest because of his ties to K-State. Milton Eisenhower, Ike’s brother, was president of the university from 1943 to 1950. According to Elmore, Ike visited Manhattan Jan. 8, 1944, bringing a gift of a puppy to his niece and Milton Eisenhower’s daughter, Ruthie. The puppy was the offspring of Ike’s Scottish terrier Telek, who also may have belonged to Kay Summersby, Ike’s wartime chauffeur.

Does this mean Ike and Kay shared a puppy as opposed to a love child?

Would getting a photo of Barney the Scottish Terrier and first dog, direct from the White House, influence your vote? (If you’re old enough to have a vote that is … And if you’re American)

If Bush needs further canine companionship he need not lament the loss of his faithful poodle (Tony Blair)- he has a new pal, a plucky Scottish terrier.

This reporter could use not only new ideas but some new metaphors as well.

Bravo to Arabella’s Scottish Terrier for the second place finish at last weekend’s Eurasia dog show in Moscow. The Scottish Terrier and Dog News has to say, however, that we find it more than just a little suspicious that the winner resembles notorious Scottie disser Vladimir Putin’s secret poodle. Any of you Kremlin watchers have the inside story?

Terrier vote swings to Obama

by AnnB on February 5, 2008 · 0 comments

in Scottie newsmakers

Ever since that first Scottish Terrier barked at Mitt Romney in New Hampshire last year, it’s been clear that even the presence of two Scotties in the White House, wasn’t going to help the Republicans much.

Extensive research conducted by the Scottish Terrier and Dog News shows only Barack Obama with documented Scottie support and fans who want to name their dogs Bark Obama. Why even the tough guy Terrier Man — no Democratic party sycophant — has come out in support of Obama and is crushing madly on his wife Michelle.

Based on our dogged reporting work, we’re calling the Democratic races for Obama and looking for Romney to stage a comeback against John McCain.

Los Angeles dog artist Moira McLaughlin looks at the presidential candidates and asks: If they were dogs, what kind of dogs would they be?

No one gets compared to a Scottish Terrier, but, then again, maybe that’s a good thing.

Vladimir Putin, that notorious Scottie dog disser and person of interest to the Scottish Terrier and Dog News, has revealed that his political role model is none other than Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

What makes this so surprising is that FDR, the owner of Fala, was — and remains, perhaps — the most famous Scottish Terrier lover ever.

Wonder if Bad Vlad is aware of that?

Unsurprisingly and as predicted by the Scottish Terrier and Dog News, Republican candidate Mitt Romney lost out to John McCain in the New Hampshire primaries of the 2008 US presidential election. The Scottie dog vote was clearly stacked against him.

On the Democratic side of things, lab owner and cat dumper Hillary Clinton, beat out Barack Obama, who despite his doglessness counts several Scottish Terriers among his supporters.

Good news, politicos. Our official US elections 2008 coverage starts today at the Scottish Terrier and Dog News, with the focus on Iowa Caucuses winners, Barack Obama of the Democrats and Republican Mike Huckabee. According to this authoritative article on the pets of presidential candidates, Obama is dogless but his daughters are pushing to add a pup to the family. Scottie Dog News is willing to bet that by the time this campaign is over, they’ll have gotten their way. Puppies make for such good PR.

So far, Obama’s doglessness doesn’t appear to have hurt him with canine-loving voters, however. There’s a Puppies4Obama website where more than 100 dogs declare their support for the senator from Illinois including this Scottish Terrier, another one named Kenya, and what looks like it could be a wheaten Scottie.

Meanwhile Newsweek recently reported that former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee –the owner of a black Lab named Jet and a Shih Tzu named Sonic — has (just like his closest rival Mitt Romney) some genuine dog skeletons in his closet, news which is not going unnoticed on the dog chatboards.
